Kids Struggle in school everyday
It’s a humbling and disheartening experience to sit in a class and feel like you can not understand something no matter how hard you try. Recognizing emotions such as embarrassment, anger, confusion, and sadness at the same time is overwhelming for anyone, especially kids.
In third grade I transferred schools, and I’ll never forget going to an interview with my future teacher, where she welcomed me to the school, and pulled out an entrance exam. After writing my name on the test, I looked down and was terrified; I saw math terms I had never learned before, vocabulary I wasn’t familiar with, and shapes I had no idea existed. I felt disappointed in myself like I wasn’t smart enough.
The struggles I had in that class would ultimately lead to being tested for learning differences and being diagnosed with dyslexia.
After that moment I developed a catchphrase: I would say “I can’t do it,” and my dad would look at me and say “Yes, you can. Just try again.” My mom would tell me “the sky’s the limit for you,” but for a long time I didn’t believe her.
To me, it felt like no matter how much I tried, it wouldn’t get better; math wasn’t getting any easier, and the more I tried, the more confused I would get.
Though my parents were wonderful at encouraging me and offering small bits of wisdom along the way, I remember often becoming upset because whenever I couldn’t solve a math problem, my parents would suggest just looking up the answer. However, I didn’t just want the answer; I wanted to understand how to solve it.
The problem
Students with learning differences lack affordable and tailored learning resources, leaving them feeling isolated and confused in traditional classrooms. More often than not, resulting in a lack of confidence, and missed opportunities to reach their full potential.
The Goal
My goal was to create a platform that leverages the power of artificial intelligence to excite, inspire, and support students in math, while ultimately helping those with learning differences discover the joy of learning and recognize their potential.
What if ai could understand your learning style and help you succeed in math?
